Jordan Henderson explains 'special' Liverpool target and makes Man City claim

Jordan Henderson has admitted winning the FA Cup would represent a 'special' achievement in his Liverpool career, should Jurgen Klopp's side claim England's oldest cup competition.

The Reds are in action against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon at Wembley and have the chance to reach their second final of the season should they get the better of Pep Guardiola's side in front of a sell-out crowd.

Winning the FA Cup would represent a memorable moment for Liverpool, with this now the only trophy missing from Klopp's collection during his time as manager of the club. Henderson has also been unable to taste success in this competition during his 11-year spell on Merseyside, though came close during his first season after losing to Chelsea in the final.

HAVE YOUR SAY: Can Liverpool win the quadruple?

Out of the remaining three trophies still up for grabs for Liverpool this season, the FA Cup would likely rank at the bottom of the list for many supporters as priority is placed on the Champions League and Premier League. For Henderson, however, this sentiment does not apply.

Describing what it would mean to go all the way in the FA Cup during an interview to be featured in Saturday's matchday programme, the 31-year-old said: "It would be pretty special. The FA Cup has always been a special competition and I remember getting to the final in my first season [with Liverpool] and not quite getting over the line. It’s a competition we wanted to do really well in this season, but it’s going to be a very tough test against Manchester City. We’re going to give it our all and hopefully we’ll manage to get to that final at Wembley next month."

It goes without saying how difficult facing City will be for Klopp's side, having learned the hard way during last Sunday's 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium. The Sky Blues will undoubtedly ask questions of Liverpool's defence this weekend, though Henderson is fully aware of the challenge ahead.

"They’re a world-class team, with world-class players and a world-class manager. It’s always going to be tough, but we’ll stick to our game plan, give it everything we’ve got and that gives us a chance in the game. Hopefully we can get a little bit of luck along the way and that will see us through to the final. It’s always a big game when you play them because of how much they’ve achieved over however many years. How good they’ve been over the past four or five years is pretty special. We’ve had some really good games against them in the past and hopefully the semi-final will be no different," he explained.

"City are very good at keeping hold of the ball, they’re very good at spending large periods of time with it and getting you to run a lot as an opposition. For us, that high energy, high intensity is a key part of our game. So, we’re two teams with different styles but very often that can make for a very good and very entertaining game."
