Jordan end Tajikistan dream run to make Asian Cup semis

Jordan will be Australia's opponents in the semi-finals of the Asian Cup if the Socceroos can get past South Korea.

Jordan booked their place by edging tournament debutants Tajikistan 1-0 to move into the last-four for the first time thanks to a second-half own goal at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium on Friday.

The two teams had previously battled out a draw in a World Cup qualifier in November, but this time Jordan emerged triumphant when the unfortunate Vahdat Hanonov put through his own net.

It was an anti-climactic end to Tajikistan's romantic run at the tournament under their eccentric Croatian coach Petar Segrt.

They came closest to netting in the first half when Ehson Panjshanbe hit the bar but Jordan got the breakthrough from a 66th minute corner when Abdallah Nasib's header deflected off the chest of Hanonov, who'd been their goalscoring hero in the last-16 win over the United Arab Emirates.

Jordan held out, earning Hussein Ammouta's side a date next Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT) with either Australia or South Korea, who were playing their semi-final later on Friday (Saturday AEDT).
