Jonny Evans set for second Manchester United debut this week after signing short-term deal

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Jonny Evans on a short-term contract that is set to see the veteran defender make his debut tomorrow.

The Northern Irish defender, 35, has been without a club this summer after leaving Leicester.

United recently invited their academy product, who at times captained the side during a seven-year stint in the first-team, to join their Under-21s’ pre-season training sessions.

And the club has awarded Evans a short-term deal to allow him to play in their upcoming friendlies.

He is set to be in the squad for Wednesday’s clash with Lyon in Edinburgh and will join the United academy as they face Wrexham in the United States.

That game, in San Diego, is scheduled for next Tuesday night and will give Evans the chance to work his way back to fitness with a view to finding a new club.

Evans made his first United debut in September 2007 and has made almost 200 competitive appearances for the club. During his first stint in the side, he won three Premier League titles, two League Cups and a Champions League.
