Jonjo Shelvey faces a fight for his Nottingham Forest future after being dropped for a poor attitude.
The midfielder was omitted from Forest’s squad for their 3-2 defeat at Liverpool after disappointing boss Steve Cooper in training.
Cooper felt Shelvey didn’t merit a place in the squad for Anfield due to his poor training and attitude. His decision was helped by the fact Shelvey, 31, a January buy from Newcastle, is also carrying a knock.
He is back training at Forest but likely to miss Brighton's visit on Wednesday evening as one of 12 stars fighting injury.
These include Scott McKenna,26, who was forced off in the first half of Saturday’s defeat after falling awkwardly.
It was just his second game back for the Premier League strugglers after missing seven games with a hamstring injury. But McKenna will miss the remaining six games of the season with a broken collarbone.
“It’s not great news, unfortunately,” said Reds boss Steve Cooper, whose side host Brighton on Wednesday. “He’s fractured his collarbone, so that’s him done for the season.
“It’s a blow. A real blow for him, having just returned back from a hamstring injury and worked so hard to get back. He’s a great professional, who always gives his best in everything he does. For him to suffer the bad luck he has done with this injury is really unfortunate.”
The injury leaves Forest with just Joe Worral l, Felipe and Moussa Niakhate as centre-back options for the clash against Brighton.
McKenna joins Dean Henderson, Shelvey, Giulian Biancone, Serge Aurier, Omar Richards, Willy Boly, Jack Colback, Cheikhou Kouyate, Ryan Yates, Gustavo Scarpa and Chris Wood on the unavailable list.
