Jonathan Van Ness credits weight loss drugs for bringing binge eating disorder under control

Jonathan Van Ness has been using weight loss medication

Jonathan Van Ness has credited weight-loss medication for helping bring his binge eating disorder under control.

The 'Queer Eye' star had been left feeling "depressed and out of control" due to his eating habits but after speaking to his doctor, had begun using a GLP-1 treatment and the drug has helped him turn a corner.

He said in a video shared to TikTok: “Alright, I have a confession to make. Yes, I am on a GLP-1 for a weight-loss medication

“I gained and lost weight several times very publicly.

“And this time in my life, I knew that I needed a little bit of extra help.

“With everything I’ve been through publicly and privately in the last couple years, I gained quite a bit of weight, wasn’t feeling good.

The most important thing was, my binge-eating disorder was out of control."

The 37-year-old hairstylist admitted he was “consistently making decisions” he “regretted with compulsive eating, with binging”, which left him feeling “really not good, depressed and out of control.”

After speaking with his doctor, he ended up having injections to help and felt "immediately better".

He said: “And I gotta tell you, this was back in September, it felt immediately better.

“I, for the first time in my life, got control over my food intake. It helped me so massively, and that’s part of why I wanna be honest with you about it because I know how important asking for help is, and how much asking for help can change your life in terms of healing.

“I needed help.”

Jonathan is planning to "revisit" the topic on his 'Getting Curious' podcast as he will feature surgeon and weight loss procedure expert Dr. Terry Simpson, who he described as a "really cool person on TikTok.”

He added: “I got so many questions, so we will be revisiting this. We love you, I love you, and thank you for listening, and I wish you all have a good day.”
