Jonathan Scott's 'holiday decor obsession' is a whimsical way to bring nostalgia into your holiday decor – it makes his home so cozy and personal

Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel.

What is your holiday decor obsession? According to a recent video of his and Zooey Deschanel's holiday decorations, Johnathan Scott's is Nutcrackers.

In the Christmas decor video posted on Drew + Johnathan, he states: 'I have so many all different sizes. I've been collecting them for years and years and do I have names for every single one of them? Don't worry about it, yes I do.' He adds, ' I've got the Scottish nutcrackers, I've got the classic nutcrackers, I have a little bit of everything, I've got some that are even blinged out.' His favorite is a short, Canadian nutcracker and his newest is a glitter-covered, cupcake-topped nutcracker.

If you're wondering about the best way to decorate with the vintage decor idea, Scott has clever advice based on his own home. He recommends: 'The one thing that is handy if you do have something that's very recognizable that you do decorate with year after year after year, you can mix it up every year by having something a little different.'

He motions to the vignette he and Deschanel have created on the shelves in their home featuring garlands and ornaments woven throughout the small statues. He says: 'So this year we did the branches, we have some of the glass garland, the beads that we have going through so stuff like that can just change the aesthetic or you can create a scene with it but then you can still use the same main decor pieces just feels a little fresher.'

No matter your collection, Scott explains: 'We love having different little scenes set up throughout the house.' He continues, 'We reuse most of our Christmas decorations from year to year and sometimes we'll introduce something new like our cute little gingerbread people so we have them scattered throughout but it's nice to have a little big of the old, a little bit of the new and even some of the stuff is just made out of cardboard and you can have crafts with the kids and glitter it up, add something that's a little whimsical and then you can tie it in with your design.' Whatever your outdated Christmas decoration of choice, there is a way to make it new.

Decorating with Nutcrackers is an easy way to infuse personality and warmth into your home, but it's not the only option. As long as you are seeking out variety, you can't go wrong.
