Jonathan Kuminga reveals what led to Warriors mentality shift

Since Draymond Green was handed an indefinite suspension from the NBA, the Golden State Warriors have gone 3-1. They’re playing with a renewed energy and focus. Klay Thompson has snapped out of his shooting slump and has been sizzling over the past few games. And the young talent on the roster has stepped up in a big way.

Following the Warriors’ win over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday (Dec. 19,) Jonathan Kuminga revealed how a recent team meeting helped shift the team’s mentality. He noted how the roster boasts multiple Hall of Fame talent and that the confidence within the locker room has begun to spread to the younger talent.

“Obviously, we have a great team,” Kuminga said. “We got a lot of Hall of Famers on the team. They’re not here to lose a game. They’re to lose to a rebuilding team. Obviously, they have that confidence…Me and the rest of the young guys, we just got adapted to that. We don’t need to be losing every time. It becomes something that brings confidence to everybody and motivation. Making sure we get some wins.”

The Warriors struggled throughout November and into the start of December. They were playing well but continually found ways to lose games from a winning position. As such, the roster construction began to earn some criticism from the fanbase and the media.

Still, the Warriors have improved dramatically over the past four games. Their style of play has more pace and urgency to it. And the spacing has been exceptional. Now, Steve Kerr will need to keep his roster engaged as they look to claw their way back up the Western Conference.
