Jonathan Gannon passed over for Texans job, expected to remain Eagles’ DC

Jonathan Gannon is now expected to return to Philadelphia as the Eagles defensive coordinator after being bypassed for the vacant Houston Texans head coaching job according to Josina Anderson.

With Gannon out of the running, either former Dolphins coach Brian Flores, or former Eagles and Texans quarterback Josh McCown, will be named the new head coach.

The 39-year-old Gannon has spent 15-years in the NFL as a scout, position coach, and now defensive coordinator for the Eagles, and Philadelphia improved tremendously on the defensive side of the ball, finishing in the top half of the NFL in every defensive category.

Philadelphia also ranked ninth in run defense (107.8 yards per game) and 10th in total defense (328.8 yards per game).

That mission for Gannon and Howie Roseman will now be to fill the defensive side of the roster with versatile defenders, ballhawks at safety, and an edge rusher with a knack for sacking the quarterbacks.
