Jonathan David scouting report as Arsenal transfer target is outshone by Chelsea's Kai Havertz

Arsenal are set for a busy transfer window this summer with their only two senior strikers out of contract in June.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both set to leave on free transfers and the club are likely to prioritise signing replacements in the summer window.

One striker the Gunners have been linked with is Lille's Jonathan David.

The Canadian international is enjoying a fine season in France, scoring 16 goals in all competitions for the French champions.

David led the line for Lille in their last-16 Champions League encounter against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening, a game the Blues won 2-0 to take a firm grip of the tie.

With that in mind football.london takes a look at how the reported Arsenal target fared during his side's defeat.

David struggled to get into the game as the service from Lille's wide and midfield players was sparse at best for long periods of the contest.

Despite that, the 22-year-old looked busy up front, and showed a willingness to run in behind and hassle Chelsea’s backline.

However, it was a frustrating night for David with the striker largely on the periphery of the game.

In total he had two shots; one which was blocked from a corner and a second from distance that sailed over the bar.

Despite his lack of meaningful touches in the game former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole was impressed with David’s movement.

"He plays that beautiful, raw way - he runs on shoulders, good finisher, he’s a target man, he holds it up. All eyes of Europe are looking at him," he told BT Sport.

"A lot of his teammates’ performances have dropped this year and his have actually stayed and gone up.

"his is what he’s all about though, once he gets in behind he’s clinical, his touch is good, strong.

"He looks like a player who has even more levels to go up. I’m not surprised lots of Premier League clubs are looking at him. He scores off both feet, he’s a real talent."

Whether Arsenal make a move for David in the summer remains to be seen, but if Edu does sanction a transfer, Mikel Arteta will be hoping David can perform to a much higher standard for the Gunners.
