Washington Commanders defensive tackle and team captain Jonathan Allen isn’t a man of excuses.
After the Commanders dropped their fourth consecutive game Sunday to the Tennessee Titans, Allen was among those who spoke to the media.
He was asked where the team stood after the latest loss.
“We gotta keep going,” Allen said. “It doesn’t matter where we think we are. We are who we are on the field, and right now, we’re a 1-4 football club, and until we change that, that’s all we’ll be.”
Allen isn’t one to sugarcoat anything or use cliches. He keeps it real.
Allen was then asked about any positive takeaways after another loss.
“Potential is a word you use for someone who hasn’t done anything,” Allen said. “That doesn’t matter how much potential we have unless we actually do something. We’re gonna learn from it, we’re going to grow, and we’re going to get ready for Chicago.”
Has anyone ever had a better definition of potential? Washington fans are certainly tired of hearing about the potential of players and the team. It’s been the same song for years with the same predictable result.
It’s players like Allen and Terry McLaurin who are trying to change that narrative.
