Jonas Eidevall relishing Arsenal's WSL final day showdown amid update on Caitlin Foord future

Arsenal Women have taken this season's WSL title race to its final day courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Tottenham in the North London Derby. Beth Mead put the Gunners in front inside four minutes before a second half double from Caitlin Foord ensured a hard fought win in front of a crowd of 13,438 at the Emirates Stadium.

The result means that Arsenal head into the final day of the season with a chance of claiming their first Women's Super League title since 2019. They sit just one point behind Chelsea and travel to West Ham, while the Blues host Champions League chasing Manchester United at Kingsmeadow.

A draw could be enough for the Gunners courtesy of their superior goal difference, however, the pressure will be on them to claim a victory that could see a dramatic final day turnaround. Manager Jonas Eidevall claimed though that he is not fearful of such a high stakes game, but instead claimed that it's the kind of occasion his side should relish.

"That’s what we want," he said in his post-match press conference. "We want to play games that matter the most. If we don’t bring it to that point we won’t win any trophies so that’s always the starting point. Play in decisive games, get to those moments and believe that everything is possible."

If Arsenal do go on to secure the WSL title then a second half price from Caitlin Foord on Wednesday night will certainly have played its part. The Australian international's first was a typical poacher's finish as she slid in at the back post to poke home Vivianne Miedema's cross, while her second oozed quality, as she bent a delightful curling effort beyond Tinja-Riikka Korpela in the Spurs goal.

Still though there is some uncertainty over her future, with reports suggesting that she could leave North London to link up with former Gunners manager Joe Montemuro at Juventus. When quizzed on the speculation, Eidevall reiterated his desire to keep the 27-year-old at the club, emphasising her importance to his plans with Arsenal.

"Like I said before I really want Caitlin to stay," the Swede said. "I think she has been excellent for us especially since coming back from the Asia cup in all the games since then basically. Both in possession and out of possession. She has been a huge part of the success we’ve had in the spring."
