Jonas Eidevall explains what pleased him most about Arsenal's comfortable WSL win over Leicester

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall is pleased with the patterns he's seeing in the goals his side are scoring following Sunday's 4-0 win over Leicester City in the Women's Super League.

The Gunners returned to the top of the table thanks to goals from Frida Maanum, Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Stina Blackstenius at the King Power Stadium. Maanum opened the scoring shortly after the 13-minute mark, Beth Mead’s low cross was parried back into the box by City keeper Kirstie Levell and the midfielder was there to tap it home.

Foord made it two less than 10 minutes later as once again Mead’s dangerous cross wasn’t dealt with by the City defence. The 27-year-old was first to the ball to comfortably put it into the back of the net.

This was the goal that pleased manager Eidevall the most, as he highlighted his players know exactly where their teammates will be, which ensures quick, one-touch passing to create opportunities.

“What I’m most pleased with is, with the goals we scored, I can see patterns," he said post-match. "I can see consistency with where the goals come from and how we create the goalscoring opportunities.

“That is so important because then it doesn’t only come down to creativity in the moment. It comes down to painting a similar picture, it’s never the same picture in football, but similar, over and over again.

“It means the assisting pass can be a one-touch pass. Beth can be decisive for it. I think our second goal is a good example of that. That cross coming in, Beth Mead does not have to wait and see if she (Foord) is going to come around or not. She knows she can put that ball in blindly. Our first goal against Lyon is the same thing.

“She can put that ball in blindly because she knows, our agreement is, Caitlin Foord will come into a situation like that.”

Catley extended Arsenal’s lead shortly after with a goal directly from a corner. It evaded everyone in a blue shirt and flew beyond Levell and into the far corner.

With just minutes gone in the second-half, Stina Blackstenius was played in behind the hosts’ defence, with only Levell to beat. She made no mistake and extended Arsenal’s lead to four.

The Gunners return to action after the international break with a top of the table clash against Manchester United on Saturday, November 19.
