Actor and legendary comedian Jon Lovitz recently criticized Democrats for their stance on Israel and handling of antisemitism in the U.S. during an interview on Oct. 7. Lovitz expressed his disappointment with 70 Democrats who voted against a bill condemning antisemitism, emphasizing the importance of standing against hate and violence towards Jewish people.
Lovitz also pointed out instances where prominent Democrats, such as Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders, made statements that he found concerning regarding Israel. He praised former President Trump for his support of Israel, stating that Trump had done more for the country than any other U.S. president.
Defending Trump against accusations of antisemitism, Lovitz highlighted Trump's personal relationships with Jewish individuals, including his daughter Ivanka, who converted to Judaism. He also mentioned a contrast between a beach club in Palm Beach that banned Jews and Mar-a-Lago's beach club, which welcomed Jewish members.
Regarding Rep. Ilhan Omar's comments on Israel and Palestine, Lovitz disagreed with her characterization of the situation as genocide. He argued that Hamas, not Israel, posed a threat of genocide and emphasized Israel's efforts to protect civilians.
Expressing his disillusionment with the Democratic Party, Lovitz, a lifelong Democratic voter and supporter of Israel, stated that he no longer identified with either party following recent events. He questioned the party's alignment with his values and criticized their handling of issues related to Israel and antisemitism.
