Joleon Lescott urges Everton to find momentum ahead of ‘huge’ game against Leeds United

Joleon Lescott believes Frank Lampard needs his Everton players to find momentum ahead of their crunch clash with Leeds this weekend.

The Whites are just three points ahead of Saturday’s opponents in the Premier League and travel to Goodison Park looking to put distance between themselves and the bottom three.

The Toffees appointed Lampard during the top flight’s two-week winter break and the Chelsea legend got off to a flyer in his first game by dumping Brentford out of the FA Cup.

However, they were comfortably beaten 3-1 by strugglers Newcastle on Tuesday, with Everton also picking up injuries to key players Yerry Mina and Demarai Gray.

Former defender Lescott has called upon the Blues to get their act together in time for a ‘huge’ game against Leeds.

"He needs to get some level of momentum," he said on BT Sport.

"I don’t think that they are in a position to prioritise any fixture, but the Leeds game is huge.

"If they beat Leeds, they go level on points and then it brings confidence back, but I don’t think they need to prioritise any fixtures going forward.

‘They just need to get points on the board, and build momentum that way."

Rob Lee - who was also working as a pundit for BT Sport - thinks Lampard needs to find the right formation quickly if Everton are to improve against Leeds.

He said: "I think Frank has got good players but he has only been there a week.

“Now he has to work out what his best formation is. How does he get the best out of Dele Alli, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, how does he get him back firing goals again?

“How does he stop leaking goals?"
