JoJo Siwa has clarified her sexuality, as her blossoming friendship with Chris Hughes continues to cause a stir on Celebrity Big Brother UK.
The musician, who came out in 2021, made a revelation during a recent episode of the currently airing reality show, telling fellow housemate Danny Beard that she’s “not a lesbian”.
“I’ve always told myself I’m a lesbian, but I think being here, I’ve realised, ‘Oh no, I’m not a lesbian, I’m queer’,” Siwa said.
The Dance Moms alum and self-described ‘inventor’ of gay pop went on to reveal where she now sits within the LGBTQIA+ alphabet, saying she is “switching letters” and “think[s] that’s really cool”.
In a wholesome slice of allyship, Beard — a former contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and fellow member of the queer community — offered Siwa a heartfelt kiss as she revealed her discovery.
Siwa’s admission comes as her relationship with Hughes, a Love Island UK alum, has caused a bit of a tizzy on social media.
Throughout their run on Big Brother, the pair have engaged in what some fans have deemed as flirtatious behaviour, including cuddles in bed and, in one instance, licking chocolate off Hughes’ shorts (she might’ve just been hungry).
Naturally, since Siwa has been dating Aussie influencer Kath Ebbs since November, her burgeoning friendship with Hughes has ruffled a few feathers, though Ebbs has yet to respond to netizens’ concerns about the state of their relationship.
It seems there’s nothing to fret about just yet, but it’s not the first time Siwa’s sexuality has become a topic of convo in the Big Brother house.
Earlier this month, fellow housemate Mickey Rourke was booted from the show following a series of homophobic comments levelled against Siwa.
Rourke, a former professional boxer (with the face to match), was also aggressive towards Hughes, leading the omniscient disembodied Big Brother voice to say “girl, bye” (well, not exactly in that tone).
Ebbs shared their support for Siwa amid her tiff with Rourke, rightfully saying on social media that his comments were “beyond disgusting”.
All the drama on Big Brother would send me straight to the house’s designated smoking area for an anxious vape, though Siwa seems to be smoking the pure elixir of a queer awakening.
That, folks, is the loveliest stimulant of all.
