Joint inspection of Cantonment roads to be taken up

Defence officials together with the GHMC officials may soon take up a joint inspection of the Cantonment roads, access for which has been shut down for civilians.

The decision for the joint inspection was taken on Tuesday, when a host of Army officials met the Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development K.T.Rama Rao and discussed several issues sticking out between the State government and the Defence authorities. Major among them was the road closure for civilians in the Secunderabad Cantonment area.

A statement from the government informed that the Defence officials headed by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Dakshin Bharat, A. Arun, expressed willingness for widening of the Balkapur Nala in the Mehdipatnam Garrison area.

Cooperation has also been promised for the construction of skywalk and of link roads from Golkonda Golf Course to Neknampur via Dollar Hills.

Mr. Rama Rao explained various developmental works taken up across the city, and complained about lack of cooperation from the Defence ministry and officials despite several appeals.

Due to road closure, residents of areas such as Malkajgiri and others have been facing hardships, he said.

Lieutenant General Arun promised complete cooperation with the Telangana government, and assured that the Army administration would work together with local GHMC and HMDA authorities.

Mr. Rama Rao reiterated the government’s absolute veneration for the Army and the martyrs, while felicitating the visiting officers with shawls and mementoes.

Officials from GHMC, HMDA and Special Chief Secretary, MA&UD Arvind Kumar participated in the meeting.
