The summer holidays can be a very expensive time for parents - but there are ways to cut down costs.

Our consumer expert Lynn Beattie, aka Mrs Mummypenny, will be joined by Mirror Money Editor Levi Winchester this afternoon (June 30) at 1pm to run through all the tips you need to know.

We’ll be going through ways to lower your childcare costs, as well as how to check what benefits you should be claiming.

Lynn can also explain to you all the ways to find cheap and free things to do over the summer break.

Finally, we’ll also talk about how to lower school uniform costs by finding the cheapest supermarket clothes - and how to check if your council can offer you a grant.

Did you know a school uniform costs £101.19 per child in secondary school on average, according to a retailer survey by The Schoolwear Association?

Meanwhile, research released by mobile network Vodafone shows parents spend up to £1,300 on keeping their children entertained during the six-week break.

It's no wonder that most families will be looking to cut their costs as prices continue to rise at the fastest rate in 40 years.

UK inflation has now hit 9.1% - its highest level since March 1982.

Families are being hit by sky-rocketing energy bills, with analysts now predicting that the Ofgem price cap will reach just shy of £3,000 in October.

On top of this, the cost of the average supermarket shop has shot up and petrol and diesel costs are at an all time high.

Some price rises are unavoidable, but there are small things you can do to make a difference to your wallet.

The Mirror has rounded up 40 ways to beat the price hikes here.
