Join the 6th Dublin Gastronomy Symposium at new Technological University Dublin Grangegorman campus

The end of May will see the return of the Dublin Gastronomy Symposium. The biennial event moved online during the Covid pandemic and this is the first in-person event since 2018.

The 6th DGS will take place at the brand new Technological University Dublin campus at Grangegorman, adding another element of celebration to this year’s event.

The conference brings together a community of academics, chefs and food enthusiasts from countries all around the world, who will present a variety of papers around this year’s theme, ‘Food in Movement’.

The keynote address will be given by Carolyn Steel, author of Sitopia and Hungry City. Carolyn’s speech will be dedicated to the subject ‘Food and Movement in the Modern City’.

As a professional architect and lecturer, Carolyn, who along with her love of buildings from a young age, also has a deep-seated interest in food after spending summer holidays in her grandparent’s hotel in Bournemouth. Both interests intertwined in Carolyn’s career, eventually leading her to write about food.

Day one of the event will include several parallel sessions, where different papers will be presented by their authors in different rooms. Each session lasts an hour and a half, and guests are invited to visit each talk during the time frame, or stay for the full duration if a particular paper is appealing.

The Presentation of DGS Fellowship Awards and Gallagher’s Boxty House Student Gastronomy Award will take place mid morning.

A lunch will be provided midday showcasing the best of Irish produce and prepared by the college lecturers and chefs.

The event takes place on May 31st - June 1st. Tickets are available through Eventbrite , and range from €30 (online) to €230 for 2 day tickets including a gala dinner held at Kings Inns.
