The Korean Cultural Center is hosting a traditional Korean wedding for the first time in Bangkok, allowing everyone to enjoy the customs and costumes, at Korean Town, Sukhumvit 12, on Friday at 11am.
The centre has received requests from over 30 Thai, Korean-Thai and international couples who sent in their love stories and expressed their wish to have a traditional Korean wedding for themselves. Most of them had to cancel their wedding ceremony and honeymoon trip due to the pandemic.
Selected for the first wedding on Friday will be Shin Yun-sup and Natcha, both 29, who submitted their 60-page love story recounting from how they met to their marriage registration last March, without a wedding ceremony due to Covid-19.
After marriage, Shin moved to Thailand from Australia and now the couple is teaching the Korean language together on YouTube and Facebook.
Korea's Ambassador Moon Seoung-Hyun will take the role of a marriage officiant for their traditional wedding which will start with a suljanggu (Korean double-headed drum) performance and candle lighting.
Upon arrival, the groom will present a wild goose, a symbol of fidelity, to the bride's mother. Then the bride will enter the room and exchange bows with the groom before they make a wedding vow and share a cup of traditional liquor.
Then, the ambassador will perform rod nam sang, a Thai wedding ceremony of pouring water on the couple's hands and giving words of blessing. The ceremony will conclude with a congratulatory performance of traditional Korean music.
