Johnstone Burgh boss Jamie McKim fumes at costly offside call in Blantyre Vics draw

Boss Jamie McKim blasted a controversial offside call he believes cost his side two points which would have sent Johnstone Burgh joint-top of the league.

The Keanie Park club battled back from a goal down on Saturday to level through Brian Connor’s clinical finish.

The home side thought they’d bagged all three points when Jojo Gillespie netted from a late free-kick, only to see the effort ruled out for offside.

Burgh manager McKim branded the decision “outrageous” and said he hoped it wouldn’t come back to bite them later in the season.

McKim told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “It was a really frustrating afternoon.

“I hate slaughtering referees for decisions, I know they have a tough job, especially at our level, but this one was just baffling.

“It was bad enough for their opener that they fouled our player running through on goal, then broke up the other end and scored.

“But we’ve scored a perfectly good winner and he’s chalked it off for offside. It’s from a set piece and he’s standing in line with the players.

“There’s no excuse for it. It’s an outrageous call. I keep saying the referees need more help, but that one was inexcusable.

“If we’d won the game, which we should have, we’d have gone joint-top of the table.

“Come the end of the season, that two points could be such a massive difference. That’s why it was so hard to take. It was unforgivably bad.”

Burgh now sit joint-third in the First Division table and will look to return to winnings ways when they travel to play Gartcairn this weekend.

McKim is confident his players will take heart from their performance against Blantyre Vics, even though they didn’t pick up all three points.

McKim said: “At the end of the day we did enough to bear Blantyre, who are a very good side.

“The players were gutted, because they knew they deserved to win.

“That decision was out of our control and what is pleasing me most is that we look fitter than other teams at the moment, especially towards the end of games.
