Johnstone Burgh are just 90 minutes away from an incredible promotion

Johnstone Burgh are just 90 minutes away from an incredible promotion after surviving a tense final ten minutes against Shotts Bon Accord to cement fourth spot in the the West of Scotland Conference A table.

After two draws on the bounce, Burgh got back to winning ways against a tough visiting side, currently occupying the second spot in the table behind high-flying Arthurlie.

The Keanie Park men were two up and in total control within 35 minutes with strikes from trialist Kieran Brophy and Jojo Gillespie.

And gaffer Jamie McKim believes a disallowed goal on the stroke of halftime should have stood and allowed his men to go into the break with daylight between the sides.

However, the visitors kept searching for a way back into the game and finally got on the scoresheet with around ten minutes still to play, making for a nervy ending to the afternoon.

McKim told Express Sports: "It was certainly a more tense final period than it needed to be.

"We were 2-0 up and over the course of the game had three disallowed, when I thought at least one of them, most likely the one just before halftime should have stood.

"To make matters worse, before their goal, we were setting up for a goal kick and the referee somehow gave it to them as a corner.

"It comes into the box and they score from it. I was tearing what's left of my hair out about that decision.

"But the boys held out for a very important win against a very difficult side and I was absolutely delighted about it."

McKim now faces a two-week break before the destiny of his side's season is back in their hands, with other sides playing catch up with their fixtures, including promotional rivals Craigmark Burntonians and Whitletts Victoria who face each other next Saturday.

He added: "I always say that if we take care of ourselves then we don't need to be thinking about what's going on elsewhere but there's scenarios with other fixtures that could mean we could be promoted before we even play Muirkirk in our final game.

"I'll just need to keep the boys ticking over and get some bounce games in to keep them ready for that match.

"Whatever happens, we'll be going into that match knowing exactly what's needed to secure promotion to the championship and that's all I'll be focused on between now and then."
