Johnson Names Player Who's Been As Good As Liverpool Ace Salah in 2024-25

Former Chelsea and Liverpool player Glen Johnson has said Cole Palmer and Mohamed Salah have been the two best players in the Premier League this season.

Salah, 32, has been enjoying a breathtaking season at Liverpool. The Egyptian international, who is in the final few months of his contract with the Reds, has emerged not only as the most prolific player in the Premier League but also as its most consistent creator. The former AS Roma winger has played 19 games in the English top flight so far, scoring 18 times and providing 13 assists. He has also been in fine form in the UEFA Champions League, recording two goals and four assists in six outings.

Salah, however, has not been the only player to stand out in the Premier League this season. Chelsea ace Palmer has also been enjoying a stellar campaign. The 22-year-old, who won the Best Young Player of the Season Award in 2023-24, has racked up 13 goals and provided six assists in 20 appearances this term. The Pensioners have been going through a slump lately, but Palmer has continued firing, netting six times in eight games since the start of December.

Glen Johnson Says Chelsea’s Cole Palmer Has Been As Good As Liverpool Superstar Mohamed Salah

Discussing the finest Premier League performers this season, Johnson told BetVictor:

Cole Palmer is definitely in the conversation for being the best player in the Premier League. He’s performed in those games where Chelsea have been struggling. They’ve leant on his shoulders numerous times and he’s always delivered.

If you put anyone ahead of Mohamed Salah in that conversation then they have to be the best player in the league because he’s set the bar so high. I’d probably say those two are neck-and-neck at the moment.

Salah has played 377 games for Liverpool since joining them in the summer of 2017. He has scored 232 times and claimed 105 assists, winning the UEFA Champions League trophy, the Premier League title, and the FA Cup, among other honours. Palmer, meanwhile, has featured in 67 games for Chelsea since joining from Manchester City in the summer of 2023. He has scored 38 goals and provided 21 assists.
