Johnny Sexton ruled out of Ireland's crunch Six Nations clash with France

For the second year running, Ireland have been hit by the loss of Johnny Sexton for their Six Nations clash with France as Joey Sexton makes his first Six Nations start.

The skipper is absent with a hamstring injury that he sustained in training yesterday.

His place at out-half goes to Carbery, who made his return off the bench in last week's opening championship victory over Wales after undergoing elbow surgery in early December.

Munster's Carbery made his return to Test rugby last summer after almost two years absent with a series of injury problems.

Meanwhile Connacht's Jack Carty is named on the bench as back-up for Carbery, and he hasn't played for Ireland since the last World Cup.

James Ryan will skipper the side in the absence of Sexton, who missed on last year's second round game against France due to a head injury sustained in the opening loss to Wales.

Also missing Ryan, Ireland went on to lose 15-13 to Les Bleus in Dublin.

As expected, Iain Henderson and Robbie Henshaw are included in the matchday squad, replacing Ryan Baird and James Hume respectively on the bench.

Other than Sexton, the starting line-up remains the same from last Saturday's comprehensive bonus point win over Wales.

Ireland (v France): H Keenan, A Conway, G Ringrose, B Aki, M Hansen, J Carbery, J Gibson-Park; A Porter, R Kelleher, T Furlong, T Beirne, J Ryan (capt), C Doris, J van der Flier, J Conan.

Replacements: D Sheehan, C Healy, F Bealham, I Henderson, P O’Mahony, C Murray, J Carty, R Henshaw.
