Johnny Sexton in race against time for URC quarter-final showdown with Glasgow Warriors

Johnny Sexton will be "continually assessed" as an ankle injury threatens his involvement for Leinster in Saturday's URC quarter-final clash with Glasgow Warriors (3.15pm).

The Blues skipper suffered the injury in the first half of the devastating Champions Cup final defeat to La Rochelle last Saturday.

Sexton was taken off after 62 minutes, with Leo Cullen explaining later he wanted to "freshen things up" and confirmed the ankle issue.

Leinster had to quickly turn their attention at the start of this week to their last remaining hope for silverware this season and will hope to use home advantage in their favour against Glasgow at the RDS.

Hooker Rónan Kelleher has definitely been ruled out after sustaining a shoulder injury early in Saturday's 25-21 loss, so Dan Sheehan will start in the front row and Sean Cronin will provide bench cover.

While Ross Byrne waits to learn if he will replace Sexton in the side, Cullen has the comfort of knowing that both James Lowe and Tadhg Furlong came through at the Stade Velodrome with no recurring issue following their return from injury.

Scrum-half Nick McCarthy (shoulder) has also returned to full training this week.
