LAS VEGAS – Johnny Munoz has no fights remaining on his UFC contract.
The UFC bantamweight fought out the last bout on his deal Saturday at UFC Fight Night 214. Munoz (12-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) defeated Liudvik Sholinian (9-4-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC) by unanimous decision on the preliminary card of the event.
Munoz is unsure what will come next, but he hopes to get another contract with the UFC.
“Of course, I love fighting here,” Munoz said when asked if he’d like to re-sign. “There’s no better organization. I know a lot of people say this and that, but this is where I always wanted to be.”
As far as the potential added pressure of heading into a fight without a new UFC contract, Munoz said he felt calm. He did want to have a good showing for a new contract, but not at the expense of getting stressed over it.
“I was trying not to think about that,” Munoz said. “I feel a lot of guys, they think, ‘Oh, I have to go out there and win.’ At the end of the day, I like fighting here, (but) the most important thing is me out of everything. The company, I love fighting here, but at the end of the day, I’m more important. I’m a very selfish person, and you have to be to be great. The big thing for me was f*ck all that, I don’t care about that noise. I have to show up and be me. I know if I show up and be myself, the other things are going to add up.”
