Johnny Depp made a surprise return to his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky, over the weekend and delighted fans as he stopped for pictures.
The Hollywood star, 59, paid a visit to family living in the city as he continued his tour with musician Jeff Beck. The trip comes amid reports Johnny could be returning to his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
The actor was dropped from the franchise during his legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard.
A neighbour of Johnny's dad, John Christopher Depp, said the musician agreed to pose for pictures as long as they kept his visit a secret until he had left.
"Hanging out with the neighbors [sic] last night out front when a group of five or six people made the way across the street right in front of us.
"Amongst the group was none other than Johnny Depp himself! He agreed to take a few pics if we didn’t tell anyone he was here until he left today," the neighbour wrote on Facebook alongside a series of pictures, according to WBKR radio.
It has recently been reported that Johnny is set to return to Pirates of the Caribbean, having been dropped from the films in 2018.
He is said to be in talks with Disney about a "$300million deal" to return to the franchise after winning his defamation trial against Amber Heard.
A source told Poptopic that Disney are looking at mending their relationship with the actor and have reportedly reached out to him.
"They reached out to the actor prior to his defamation trial against Amber Heard and asked whether he would be interested in returning for another pirate film or two," the insider said.
They added: "The deal is reportedly for Johnny Depp to return as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and a spin-off Disney Plus series about the early life of the Captain of The Black Pearl.
"What I can tell you is that the studio has already penned up a draft for a film about Jack Sparrow so they are very hopeful that Johnny will forgive them and return as his iconic character."
The Mirror has approached Johnny's representatives for comment.
