Johnny Depp’s artwork dedicated to ‘Friends and Heroes’ sells out within hours

Johnny Depp’s new collection of artwork has sold out within hours of going on sale at Castle Fine Art.

The 59-year-old Pirates Of The Caribbean actor had been busy throughout the last few months as he worked on creating the limited-edition collection called Friends and Heroes.

The launch of Depp’s collection, which embodies a pop art and street art style, caused a surge of interest in the Castle Fine Art website and saw the platform temporarily crash.

All 780 pieces, priced upwards of £3,950 each, were sold within hours of them being released, marking record sales for the gallery.

Each artwork saw Depp use photographic references as he created bold portraits that featured people he knew well as well as figures that inspired him.

Well-known figures featured in Depp’s collection include Elizabeth Taylor, Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, and Al Pacino.

Speaking about his work, Depp said: “I’ve always used art to express my feelings and to reflect on those who matter most to me, like my family, friends and people I admire. My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves.”

The star also shared a picture taken within the gallery on social media as he posed with his work. The post was inundated with supportive messages as fans praised Depp for his artistic talents.

The release of Depp’s art collection comes during a busy year for the Hollywood star. In the last few months, he’s been performing in front of busy crowds on stage with Jeff Beck, and the pair have also released an album of their collaborative work.

He is also due to go on a European tour next year with his supergroup, the Hollywood Vampires.

Earlier this year, Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard were also caught up in a high-profile court case after he sued the Aquaman actor for $50million. She countersued Depp for $100million.

Following the trial, the jury awarded $15million to Depp and $2million to Heard, however the claim was then reduced to $10.35million due to a cap on punitive damages in Virginia.

A little over a week ago, Heard filed an appeal against the verdict of the case.
