Johnny Depp not the only big name to join Jeff Beck in Gateshead as well known star is opening act

While it's Johnny Depp's appearance in the show that has created a huge buzz around town, there is another big name music star on stage for the Jeff Beck gig in Gateshead on Thursday night.

Having joined Jeff on stage for two gigs at the Royal Albert Hall earlier on in the music icon's tour, speculation was rife, despite all the drama surrounding his on going court case with ex Amber Heard, that Johnny would head to Tyneside with Jeff for his concert at the Sage. And, after it was confirmed that Johnny would be part of the gig, all remaining tickets for it were snapped up.

Johnny arrived in Newcastle a day before he was due to join Jeff on stage and caused a mighty frenzy when he was spotted alongside Jeff down the Quayside. Johnny was seen in The Bridge Tavern pub, where the duo were also joined by a very well known face, North Shields' own Sam Fender. As word spread of Johnny being in town, minutes before the jury in America ruled in his favour, locals flocked to the pub, while others were left in shock as pictures and videos of the Pirates of the Caribbean star circulated on social media.

After a night to remember for Newcastle, Sam and Johnny himself, fans gathered at the Hilton/Newcastle Gateshead, over the water from all the hysteria a night earlier, hoping to catch a glimpse of Johnny and Jeff and their efforts were rewarded mid-afternoon. The pair made the short journey to Sage Gateshead, where more fans were waiting, greeting Johnny with chants and screams as he made his way into the venue.

Jeff and Johnny were due on stage around 8.30pm but before then, the audience were treated to a set from Sharon Corr, the singer and musician who shot to fame in the late 90s, alongside sisters Andrea and Caroline and brother Jim. The siblings landed a multi platinum selling album with Talk on Corners, which gave the world hits like What Can I Do, So Young and Dreams, while in 2000 they scored a number 1 single with Breathless.

Sharon Corr is supporting Jeff Beck (PR)

Sharon is now an acclaimed solo act, with last album The Fool and The Scorpion, released in 2021, lapped up by fans and critics. She's been getting rave reviews on the Jeff Beck tour. One fan who saw her earlier this week tweeted: "Let’s give the right tribute to an amazing artist #SharonCorr performing as supporting act for #JeffBeck."

Another posted: "Lovely guest spot at the Jeff Beck concert by @Sharon_Corr with a tribute to Steve Bronski playing Smalltown Boy and a great version of Carrickfergus."
