Johnny Depp was left “cowering in the corner” after being berated by an angry Amber Heard during a stay at a luxury trailer park resort, an eyewitness has said.
Morgan Night came forward to testify in Depp and Heard’s libel battle, contradicting the actress’ evidence that her ex-husband had flown into a jealous rage and trashed their trailer during a stay in 2013.
“I was speaking with Mr Depp, just one-on-one talking about Hicksville, and Ms Heard came over and she said that I want to talk to you and seemed really upset about something,” Mr Night told the jury in Fairfax County, Virginia.
“They went off on their own and she started yelling at him.”
He claimed Depp was “cowering and seemed almost afraid” as Heard “angrily” shouted at him.
“It was really, like, odd to see because he was older than her obviously, so but I just went back into the house,” he said, adding that Depp later apologised for the incident and was quiet and “petulant” during the rest of the evening.
“At the beginning of the night he was a lot more outgoing and extraverted. As the course of the night went on, he was less so,” he added.
Mr Night said there was minimal damage to the couple’s 1950s-style trailer the following morning, with just a light fixture broken off the wall.
After Heard’s evidence of the stay last month, the trailer park owner had Tweeted saying: “That never happened. I was with them all night. Amber was the one acting all jealous and crazy.”
Mr Night, who accepted sending the Tweet and interacting with a pro-Depp Twitter account, drew laughter in court when he denied being a “big fan” of Depp, but said he had met him at the star’s West Hollywood club The Viper Room in the 1990s.
Supermodel Kate Moss is expected to give evidence later on Wednesday in the blockbuster libel trial, where Depp is suing for $50 million and Heard is counterclaiming $100 million.
Depp and Moss dated in the 1990s, and she is expected to face questions over Heard’s claim that the Pirates of the Caribbean pushed the model down stairs when they were dating.
