Johnny Depp claims he suffered domestic abuse from his ex wife Amber Heard

Johnny Depp has claimed he suffered domestic abuse at the hands of ex wife Amber Heard.

Depp was wrapping up his testimony during the couples $50million libel case which has caught global interest and continues to roll on.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star took Heard to court for defamation after she implied in The Washington Post that Depp physically and sexually abused her in 2018.

The Mirror reports Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez asked him in court: “What did you say in response when Ms Heard said ‘tell the world Johnny, tell them I Johnny Depp, a man, am a victim too of domestic violence?’”

He replied: “I said yes, I am."

Depp admitted earlier in court that he was "ashamed" of texts sent to actor Paul Bettany, where he suggested they "burn" and "drown" Amber.

He explained he and Paul had an "abstract sense of humour" claiming the jokes were based on a Monty Python sketch.

In a 2013 text to Paul, Johnny wrote: “Let’s burn Amber.

"Let’s drown her before we burn her. I will f*** her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”

Johnny insisted the message content was never “intended to be real” and was just a coping mechanism.

He said: “As these are private texts there was a lot … in context."

“It’s important to know none of that was ever intended to be real and the language used which … yes, I am ashamed (of) has to be spread on the world like peanut butter.

“For example, the text that is about burning Ms Heard is directly from Monty Python and the sketch about burning witches and then drowning the witches.

“This is a film we’d all watch when we were 10 – it’s just irreverent and abstract humour.”

Depp claimed Heard was threatened by his friendship with Bettany.

He explained: "Ms Heard despised Mr Bettany mainly because we had become such close friends and for her he was a threat and would take me away from her.”

In an audio clip heard by the court, Johnny also talks about Amber saying: "Walking away is necessary... otherwise it's just going to be a bloodbath... like it was on the island...it's just not worth it."

The "island" is a private island in the Bahamas where Johnny went for detox during August 2014 and is alleged to have argued with Amber.

Amber replied in the audio clip: "No one in their right mind is going to chose bloodbath over walking away."

The actress also said: "I'm not asking you to have a bloodbath over walking away, I'm asking you to work it out over prolonging it and making it bigger."

In another clip Amber appears to compare her and Johnny's relationships to others she has experienced and Johnny shouts: "Because you're a f*****g c**t."

Johnny also sent a text message in August 2014 praising Amber to her mother, Paige.

He typed: "There's no luckier man on this earth to have the strength that Amber gives me.

"Your daughter has risen far about the nightmarish task of taking care of this poor old junkie.

"Suffice to say I have never loved a woman or a thing more. She has the strength of a thousand men. And that is due to no one or nothing but you sweetheart."

He ended: "Your son outlaw".

Johnny denies all allegations that he assaulted Amber.
