Johnny Depp and Sam Fender drink together in Newcastle's Bridge Tavern as locals left in shock

Sam Fender joined Johnny Depp in Newcastle's Bridge Tavern on Wednesday night, minutes before the verdict on the actor's case with ex Amber Heard was announced.

Shortly after 7pm, it was revealed that the jury in the courtroom in Fairfax had reached a verdict, having Johnny and Amber both accused each other of defamation. And, just as news of the high profile case's conclusion broke, Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny sent the Quayside boozer into a frenzy when he was spotted by fellow drinkers.

And there wasn't just one hero in the boozer at the time because, as well as Jeff Beck who Johnny will play the Sage Gateshead with on Thursday, Hypersonic Missiles singer Sam joined them, after a busy spell of his own which saw him raise well over £130,000 at a charity gig at o2 Newcastle City Hall and play to a packed crowd at Radio 1's One Big Weekend in a matter of days.

Sam posted a selfie of the group on his Instagram, along with the caption 'Some serious heroes.'

The reaction to Sam and Johnny being together in Newcastle was off the charts, with Twitter users, as well as being massively excited, being left in a state of complete and utter shock. One tweeted: "Johnny Depp being in Newcastle with Sam Fender finding out the trial verdict feels like a fever dream," while another reacted: Sam Fender on the p**s with Johnny Depp in Newcastle is the best thing I've seen in my life"

Johnny left The Bridge minutes before the Amber Heard verdict came in. Minutes later the jury ruling defamed ex-husband Johnny in a 2018 Washington Post article in which she wrote about being “a public figure representing domestic abuse”.

The verdict prompted shouts of "Johnny, Johnny!" from fans outside, with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor $10m (£8m) in compensatory damages and $5m in punitive damages.
