John Terry shares verdict on Kai Havertz goal as Chelsea legend sends message to supporters

John Terry has said a big thank you to the "excellent" Chelsea supporters after the Blues beat Newcastle United 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

It has been a turbulent couple of weeks for Chelsea, with Roman Abramovich originally stating his intention to sell the club before he saw his assets in the UK frozen by the government, placing the sale of the west Londoners into doubt.

Ever since Abramovich was sanctioned, the Blues have had no choice on the pitch other than to get on with it - and that they have done.

After beating Norwich City 3-1 on Thursday - the day of the sanctions being putting into place - Chelsea recorded their second consecutive win in the Premier League on Sunday as they secured a late victory over Newcastle United.

Kai Havertz scored an 89th minute winner at Stamford Bridge - and did so in superb style. The German was found through a fantastic Jorginho lofted ball, with Havertz controlling it on his left foot and then poking it past Martin Dubravka to win Chelsea the match late on.

Former Blues captain Terry, speaking after the game, sent Havertz and the club's fan base a message on Twitter.

He said: "Great vision, great execution, superb touch and finish. Our supporters were excellent today, I stood there proud to be Chelsea.

"Well done boys and a huge thank you to our fans."

The complicated situation at Stamford Bridge has seen Thomas Tuchel linked with an exit from Chelsea, with some calling on Manchester United to make a move for the Blues boss.

However, Tuchel pledged his commitment to Chelsea after the win against Newcastle, saying he would stay until the end of the season at least.

He said: "There's no doubt I'll stay until the end of the season. Absolutely. We just have to wait and we still have to go day-by-day because everything can change.

"As you know the situation is clear, the club is for sale, and hopefully, it will go through to sort things out and give us a perspective. But it is pure speculation and I have no further information than you already have.

"That's what I meant with day-by-day, which is anyway a good way to live your life, and now we are forced to do it because there are some circumstances we cannot influence, and at some point it is not so nice because we have no strings to pull and no actions to do to help.

"On the other side, it gives you the freedom to focus on what we can influence, and this is our performances and to show the spirit.

"Of course, the focus is on the first team, our players and me and the first team of Chelsea. But Chelsea is much more than the first team of the Premier League.

"It's a massive club, massive club with huge tradition and there are hundreds of people who I am pretty sure worry more than our players and staff, me included.

"For them, it's important that we show the spirit and give them a bit of a distraction, some hope and show what we are about, and we are about football because we love the game."
