Chelsea legend John Terry has sent a message to Roman Abramovich after the Russian confirmed that he is looking to sell the club on Wednesday evening.
Abramovich has come under mounting pressure to sell as the UK government threatens sanctions against those with links to Vladimir Putin.
As such, he has decided to push ahead with a sale. A number of investors have already been touted with a potential purchase, with Hansjorg Wyss and Todd Boehly rumoured to be involved in a consortium.
Terry was a Chelsea player when Abramovich took over in 2003 and captained the Blues through much of the subsequent success, including their first Premier League and Champions League titles.
After his statement was shared on Instagram, the former defender replied: "Thank you Roman. The Best Owner in the WORLD."
Abramovich's statement confirmed that he is looking to sell the club, but insisted he would not be rushing through a deal.
"I have always taken decisions with the club’s best interest at heart. In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the club, the fans, the employees, as well as the club’s sponsors and partners," he wrote on the club's official website.
"The sale of the club will not be fast-tracked but will follow due process. I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid. This has never been about business nor money for me, but about pure passion for the game and club.
"Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated. The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine."
