John Terry has already told Chelsea why they should appoint Graham Potter amid £16m decision

John Terry has already given his backing to Graham Potter if he is to become Thomas Tuchel's successor at Chelsea.

The Blues, spearheaded by Todd Boehly at the top, had already decided internally to move on Tuchel, but the question was when. Well, after a shambolic night in Europe which saw the west Londoners lose their opening Group E game against Dinamo Zagreb, the new Chelsea ownership structure believed it was the right time to pull the trigger. A statement from the Club reads: "Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with head coach Thomas Tuchel.

"On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea's history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here. As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the Club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

"Chelsea's coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.

"There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made."

With life having to move on quickly in the footballing world, this is exactly what Boehly is trying to do as he faces a mixed reception with this decision. It is understood that Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino are the two early frontrunners to become the German's successor, but until the managerial recruitment process is over, Anthony Barry will be placed to cover the bases on an interim basis.

Potter vs Pochettino has already caused a divide with different sectors of the fanbase and even some pundits in the media already listing pros and cons about the two aforementioned candidates. However, if it was Terry's decision alone, the current Premier League manager would get his vote.

He tweeted at the end of last month: 'How good is Graham Potter? I love how Brighton plays. He has to be one of the best young managers. Ticks every box for me.' Terry recently took up a role in the club and his views on things might help make Potter the next man incharge.
