John Terry aims brutal dig at Tottenham in pointed message to Harry Kane

Chelsea icon John Terry has claimed that Harry Kane is never going to fulfil his ambitions of claiming major silverware as long as he plays for Tottenham.

The striker has developed into one of the most lethal goalscorers in world football in North London having progressed through the club’s youth academy. The 29-year-old is well on his way to becoming the highest goalscorer in Premier League history having notched 195 goals in the top-flight, whilst he has an outstanding record of 261 strikes in all for the club.

Despite that stunning total, Kane has not been able to lift a piece of major silverware in his career yet having been on the losing side in a Champions League and two League Cup finals. Spurs have also not quite managed to get over the line on a few occasions in the race for the Premier League crown.

Blues icon Terry has claimed that Kane’s ambitions of lifting trophies will never be met as long as he stays with Spurs in what is a brutal jibe at the North London club. Speaking to beIN Sports, the now 41-year-old said: “I think Harry Kane has got ambitions to go and win trophies – he’s clearly not going to do that at Tottenham is he?

“Let’s be honest. He’s not, clearly. Let’s be honest with ourselves. He’s one of the best strikers in the world. He wants to win trophies. He wants to play for the best and biggest teams.

“Spurs are not that, Spurs are not going to give him what he wants. He wants to finish his career with some trophies.”

Terry is not the only one to have commented on Kane’s current position over recent weeks. Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has claimed that Kane should have moved on and that his decision to pen a new deal with Spurs was a “mistake”.

Writing in his Daily Mail column ahead of England’s World Cup opener against Iran, he said: “He’s just absolutely sensational.

"Signing such a long-term contract at Tottenham was a mistake because he could have been at Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich winning the trophies his ability deserves.”

Kane is tied to Tottenham until the summer of 2024, having signed a long-term deal back in the summer of 2018. He was very strongly linked with a move to Man City in the summer of 2021 only for the Citizens to refuse to meet Spurs’ huge asking price.

In the end, they elected to move onto alternative target Erling Haaland and the Norwegian has enjoyed an electric start to life at the Etihad Stadium. Before the enforced break before the World Cup, the 22-year-old had 23 goals in 18 appearances in all competitions.
