THE First Minister has held an “introductory call” with Donald Trump.
John Swinney’s office confirmed he had spoken with the president-elect on Tuesday evening, where they discussed “the social, cultural, and economic ties between Scotland and the United States”.
Swinney previously congratulated Trump on winning the US election last month, as he said: “I wish you every success in your new role.”
It comes after he endorsed Kamala Harris while speaking to journalists, leading Eric Trump – the incoming president’s son – to label the First Minister “nasty”.
Trump is expected to assume office on January 20.
Following the discussion, Swinney said: “Tonight I held an introductory call with President-Elect Donald Trump.
“We discussed a range of issues including the social, cultural, and economic ties between Scotland and the United States, including the importance of the US market for Scottish exports.
“I look forward to the two nations continuing to work together.”
