John Stones and Nathan Ake start in Man City predicted XI vs Borussia Dortmund

Pep Guardiola must decide whether to stick or twist as Manchester City prepare to take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night (8pm). City have already progressed from Group G with both teams now set to battle it out for top spot on their way to the knockout stages.

Norway sensation Erling Haaland scored during a 2-1 victory for City in the corresponding fixture and the marquee summer signing is poised for his first return to Signal Iduna Park following his £52million switch between the clubs. He will almost certainly be given that chance despite qualification being rubber-stamped.

Guardiola and his men still have work to do to confirm first place and will not want to leave that until the Group G finale against Sevilla next month. City were, meanwhile, given a welcome rest last midweek due to the cancellation against Premier League rivals Arsenal.

England internationals Kyle Walker (groin) and Kalvin Phillips (shoulder) are the two injury absentees and fit-again Aymeric Laporte will continue to have his minutes managed after recovering from a knee problem, especially after he suffered a minor scare against Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

With that in mind, there are no enforced changes for Guardiola to make. However, with matches coming thick and fast before the World Cup begins, rotation might be his best policy for this one.

In-form Phil Foden did not start against the Seagulls and will almost certainly come in for Riyad Mahrez or, perhaps, even £100million man Jack Grealish. Club captain Ilkay Gundogan is another in contention for a starting spot while a number of options remain available at the back.

IN: John Stones, Nathan Ake, Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden.

OUT: Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez,

City predicted line-up vs Borussia Dortmund (4-3-3): Ederson; Cancelo, Stones, Akanji, Ake; Gundogan, Rodri, De Bruyne; Foden, Haaland, Grealish.
