John Souttar Rangers agony as latest injury woe gets painful verdict and Helander dealt fresh blow

John Souttar will be out of action until after the World Cup break after the Rangers star's latest injury.

The centre-back had no shortage of injury problems at former club Hearts but has shown when fit for his club and Scotland that he is a strong centre-back. He's not been able to get going at Ibrox since his summer switch though and manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed he faces a further spell out of action.

Souttar will be missing throughout the next six weeks for Rangers, where they will play a whopping 13 times, including a double-header with Liverpool in the Champions League.

The Scotland international started the first game of the season away at Livingston but has been battling back from his fitness concern throughout August and September, with a December return to action now billed. He requires an operation and joins the treatment table at Auchenhowie.

Filip Helander is another centre-back who has been floored with injury problems and also won't return until after the World Cup.

James Sands has had to drop into defence from midfield to help ease the load at the back while Leon King has been handed a chance.

Rangers face Hearts in the Premiership on Saturday.
