John Murtough lists two reasons why Manchester United signed Lisandro Martinez

John Murtough said Lisandro Martinez will bring quality and experience to Manchester United as the Argentine was finally confirmed as United's third summer signing.

United announced the arrival of Martinez for an initial fee of £46.8million, rising to £55.3m, earlier this month, but the deal was officially confirmed on Wednesday afternoon. Martinez has joined United on a five-year contract, with the option of an additional year.

Martinez, 24, is a left-footed centre-back and he made 36 appearances under Ten Hag at Ajax last term. Martinez took part in his first training session at Carrington yesterday and he is likely to make his debut against Atletico Madrid in Oslo on July 30.

Martinez is Ten Hag's third signing of the summer after Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen, and director of football Murtough shared his delight at the player's arrival.

“Lisandro is an outstanding player who will bring further quality and experience to Erik [Ten Hag]’s squad," Murtough said. “We are delighted that he has chosen to join Manchester United and we are looking forward to seeing him develop further and help the team achieve the success we are aiming for.”

Martinez has won the 2021 Copa America with Argentina and two Eredivisie titles with Ajax in his career.
