John Murtough explains why Manchester United signed Tyrell Malacia

John Murtough described Tyrell Malacia as an "exciting, dynamic young footballer" as Manchester United confirmed their first signing of the summer.

Malacia was at Carrington on Monday along with his agent Ali Dursun to complete his medical and sign the paperwork required for his move to Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag is no stranger to Malacia having seen his Ajax side compete against the full-back for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.

Before the deal was announced, the 22-year-old explained that he had a 'good conversation' with his new manager before sealing a move to England. Lyon had been expected to sign the left-back before Ten Hag stepped in.

Speaking following the official announcement, United's football director Murtough said: "Tyrell is an exciting, dynamic young footballer with excellent experience for his age, including five seasons in the Eredivisie, a European final and full international honours for the Netherlands. We look forward to seeing him continue to develop under the guidance of Erik ten Hag and his coaching team in the years ahead. Everyone at Manchester United welcomes Tyrell to the club."

Malacia has signed on a four-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option of an extra year.
