John Murtough explains why Jack Butland is perfect fit for Manchester United

John Murtough believes Jack Butland's 'mentality and personality' make him the perfect choice to become Manchester United's new back-up goalkeeper.

United confirmed a deal to sign Crystal Palace goalkeeper on loan for the rest of the season, after Newcastle shot-stopper Martin Dubravka's time at the club was brought to an end earlier in the week.

The 29-year-old will bring added experience and competition to the 'keeper department at Old Trafford, with manager Erik ten Hag eager to have three dependable options to call upon.

Ten Hag isn't the only one impressed by Butland either, with football director Murtough a fan of the former England international.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed on Friday morning, he explained why Butland was the perfect addition to United this month.

“Jack is an excellent goalkeeper with great experience throughout his career," Murtough said. "His mentality and personality will be a real asset to our superb group of goalkeepers and the whole squad.

"Jack joins David, Tom and our young keepers to form a strong group who will all support each other in creating an optimum training and playing environment. We’re all looking forward to welcoming him into the group.”
