JOHN MCGINN insists Scotland's players should be the only people being criticised for the country's poor recent form.
Steve Clarke has come under fire from a large section of the nation's support following the end of another World Cup dream at the hands of Ukraine.
The former Kilmarnock manager was also heavily criticised for his team selection and tactics in Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Ireland.
But McGinn stood up for his national team gaffer following Scotland's second victory against Armenia in the Nations League in a week.
He told BBC Sport: "I don't think, well I don't notice, but the team were never in any doubt about what the manager has achieved.
"If there was any noise about that then it was wrong.
"The criticism should have come towards us. I didn't see any, but the criticism should have been towards us as players.
"It's been a disappointing camp for us overall, one we'll need to reassess and come back in September stronger and play better to our capabilities.
