John Mc Areavey announces second baby is on the way with wife Tara

John McAreavey has announced he is expecting his second child with his wife Tara.

The Co Down native shared the happy news on social media after celebrating his birthday at their home in Tullylish, Co Down over the weekend.

The couple will be welcoming their second child later this year, a younger sibling to their son, James, who turns two in October.

Sharing snaps of himself and a glowing Tara, John wrote: “Lovely birthday weekend with @tara_mcareavey, James and bump”.

The couple will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary next month, having first met on a night out in Galway in 2012 after a football match in honour of John's late wife Michaela.

The 27-year-old was strangled in her room at the Legends Hotel on the Indian Ocean island on January 10, 2011.

The Co Tyrone teacher, who had married John McAreavey 10 days earlier, was attacked after she returned to her room alone and disturbed a burglary.

No one has been convicted of murdering the daughter of Gaelic football manager Mickey Harte.

While John said the spark between himself and Tara was instant, she was the first woman he had spoken to since his wife’s death and says that it was “completely innocent” at first.

Recalling the exact date of their first meeting, John previously recalled: “It was a Saturday night, November 10, 2012.”

John and Tara got engaged in October 2015 and tied the knot in September 2016 in County Kildare.

Entrepreneur John, who owns sweet company Hey Candy, previously admitted the tragic murder of his first wife Michaela on their honeymoon in Mauritius has caused him to fear Tara will be taken from him too.

He said: “No girl dreams about getting married to a young man who has been married before and whose wife has been tragically murdered. She’s fiercely protective of me. All she ever wants to know if that I’m okay.

"It has been a journey that the two of us have had to travel over the past number of years but we’re very comfortable with each other and we’re very secure in each other.

"I guess we gave ourselves that bit of a bubble. We’re a very close group of family and friends and really, that’s all that matters."
