There’s no guarantee that 49ers rookie defensive end Nick Bosa will be ready for the start of the regular season on Sept. 8 in Tampa Bay. However, general manager John Lynch offered an encouraging update on the No. 2 overall pick as he recovers from an ankle sprain.
Lynch told reporters after the team’s final roster cuts that Bosa would be ready to practice when the team began preparations for the Buccaneers on Monday.
That doesn’t mean Bosa will play for sure. They won’t force him into action early if his ankle doesn’t respond well, but the fact the training staff is allowing him to practice is a good sign.
San Francisco’s entire team-building philosophy on defense has revolved around an improved pass rush. That pass rush is going to rely heavily on Bosa playing at a high level right away.
