John Lydon broke down in tears as he discussed his poignant Eurovision song Hawaii yesterday.
The former Sex Pistol will appear on the Late Late Show Eurosong special tonight where he will perform the track, which was penned for his wife Nora, who has Alzheimer's. Lydon will go up against five other acts, including Dublin act Wild Youth, for the chance to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool.
The musician, 67, was speaking from the capital yesterday when he appeared on ITV's This Morning. And he became emotional as he discussed his tribute to German heiress Nora, 80, reports the Mirror.

He said: "Here is a song I’ve wrote about my lovely missus, who is suffering Alzheimer's, and I’m having to watch the slow dilapidation of her brain. It’s a song not just about Nora and me, it’s a subject that is really important and it’s so pervasive and so at the moment incurable.
"And I’m struggling to keep a relationship with Nora. Hopefully the song kind of helps. It’s a love song and it’s got huge tragedy and poignancy and that the importance of love does conquer all."
After branding the disease "hideously cruel", host Philip Schofield told his guest: "It's heartbreaking that you've had to write it in these circumstances. Our love to Nora."
John will perform the song with his current band Public Image Ltd (PiL). The Late Late Show Eurosong special will air at 9:30 tonight on RTE One.
