John Lundstram subject to bizarre criticism from own club's technical director

Former Rangers star John Lundstram has been the subject of bizarre criticism from his new club's own technical director, according to reports in Turkey.

The 30-year-old midfielder quit Ibrox after three years at the club in the summer to move to Trabzonspor along with his Rangers teammate Borna Barisic.

He's made five starts and two sub appearances for the club, but Trabzonspor were heavily criticised by their own fans after going out of the Europa League to Rapid Vienna and then the Europa Conference League after St Gallen eliminated them following a penalty shootout.

And the club's technical director Senol Gunes was widely quoted in Turkey expressing his disappointment at Lundstram's performances in what were reportedly private conversations with the club's coaching team which leaked out.

He said: "I cannot understand the Lundstram transfer.

"We have several players with the same characteristics. Lundstram is a very heavy and cumbersome football player.

"There is nothing we can do at the moment, but if there is an opportunity to send him to another team, it would be good for both Lundstram and us.”

Meanwhile, former Rangers chairman Dave King has called out a section of Rangers supporters over abuse directed at club captain James Tavernier.

The Ibrox skipper was berated by one fan in a viral social media clip in the aftermath of the 3-0 defeat to Celtic last weekend.

Footage showed the defender being branded "nothing but a f****** loser" and repeatedly told to "f*** off" by a furious supporter outside Ibrox.

King - who served as chairman at Ibrox previously - has called for an end to the personal abuse aimed at Tavernier as he hailed the "100% loyal" defender who "repeatedly saved us in key games for a decade".
