John Lundstram's Rangers turnaround hailed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst after coming in from the cold

John Lundstram's turnaround in Rangers fortunes has been hailed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The former Sheffield United man found himself out of favour and seemingly set for an Ibrox January exit, despite only being signed by Steven Gerrard last summer.

But Lundstram has played his way back into the Dutchman's plans with a string if impressive performances,, especially in wins over Hearts and Hibs this week.

Van Bronckhorst admits it's exactly the sort of response he was hoping for from the Scouser, and it's all hands on deck during a hectic part of the season.

He said: “ John Lundstram has done really well. I am happy for him because it is not easy to not be playing.

“Every player wants to play, but the response he had, and the performance he had in the last two games, for me that is what you want if you put a player in to perform.

“The competition is really hard at the moment because we have got many players available now, not only in midfield but up front. That is good for me.

“But we have to continue and everyone who is in the team, the 11 who start, they must be ready.”

Another response he has been happy with is that of his whole team after the crushing Old Firm defeat just over a week ago.

Since then they've dismantled Hearts 5-0 and had another comfortable victory over Hibs.

Van Bronckhorst added: "Of course, the disappointments will happen in the season, and the way you react to those moments is vital for the future. I think we did really well.

“It was a big loss against Celtic but the reaction after that was good, especially in our character, our intensity and the way of playing.

“I am really pleased but now we need to keep going.

“The Cup will begin again, we play in Europe next week and then the season starts again.

“We are in a good place and everyone is pushing each other to keep putting in the performances that we did last Sunday and on Wednesday night.”
