John Lennon Airport reassures fans after tour operator flights cancelled

Liverpool John Lennon Airport reassured Liverpool FC fans travelling to Paris for the Champions League Final after two tour operator flights were cancelled this morning.

A spokesperson for the airport told the ECHO "the vast majority" of flights were running to Paris with some subject to "minor delays". The ECHO contacted the airport after being approached by several fans who had arrived at the airport to find their 4am flight cancelled.

More than 100 LFC fans who paid around £650 through tour operator WorldChoice Sports couldn't board their flights to Paris. The airport spokesperson told the ECHO WorldChoice Sports cancelled two flights and managed to replace one.

The spokesperson added the tour operator managed to get a "majority" of people onto other flights while others managed to find alternative transport to Paris. But 129 people were apparently turned away and had to go home. One fan told the ECHO it "wasn't on" and feared there would be "empty seats" at the stadium.

The last flight from LJLA to Paris is the 13.40pm. Liverpool FC play Real Madrid at 8pm tonight.
