John Legend says 'values and character matter' after ending Kanye West friendship

John Legend has opened up on the fall out between him and former pal Kanye West.

The singer, 43, lifted the lid on what ended their acquaintance in a candid interview with the New Yorker. He explained to Michael Schulman that their relationship ultimately came to an end due to his lack of support for the Gold Digger singer 46, during his run for president in 2020.

However, he also insisted that wasn't the sole reason. He told the publication: "I don’t feel like politics should be everything in your relationships, and your relationships with people shouldn’t only be determined by who they voted for.

"But I do believe that certain things you believe in are indicators of your character, and obviously that will affect your friendships. I don’t want to live a life that’s so consumed by politics that it’s the sole determinant of who can be my friend and who can’t.

"But values matter and character matters and moral compass matters."

John, who is married to model Chrissy Teigen, explained he's not sure what the future holds with Kanye, but admitted the rapper was "very upset" at the lack of support John showed him during his push for the big seat in the White House. He said he was unsure whether the star can "get past" his support for Joe Biden.

Kanye is currently taking his private battles public once again with Pete Davidson, Kris Jenner and Gap among those to be called out for their actions.

He also called his fans on Instagram "crazy" for not understanding him after his latest jibe at his ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

The artist, who is now legally known as Ye, criticised fans who have called him out on his public feud with 41-year-old Kim. He wrote: "Here is the through line. Gap having meetings about me without me. Adidas releasing old shoes and coloring my shoes like I'm dead.

"Me not having a say on where my children go to school. Call me whatever names you want. If you don't understand why I will not back down on my businesses my brands and my children then you're the ones who are crazy."

He later revealed he'd had a good meeting with Kim over their kids' schooling - but still found the time to bash his "enemies" yet again.
