John Herron looks set for Cliftonville move once new manager is installed

John Herron looks set to join Cliftonville once they have installed their new manager.

The former Larne and Glentoran midfielder is reported to be the first new arrival of the summer at Solitude with the deal set to be announced imminently.

The Reds are currently trying to appoint a new manager to replace Paddy McLaughlin, who left before the end of last season to become assistant manager at Derry City.

It seems that a deal is close to being agreed with former Northern Ireland international Jim Magilton after a frustrating for weeks for the club as they tried to conclude a deal for a new boss.

Once any deal for Magilton is completed it seems Herron will be quickly following him through the door at Solitude.

The former Celtic midfielder is keen to return to the Irish League after a spell in Australia with NPL side Dandenong City.

Last season Herron had his contract with the Larne “terminated by mutual agreement” after images circulated online of him wearing a t-shirt with a ‘pro-IRA’ message.

He was hit with a 10-game ban by the Irish Football Association for ‘bringing the game into disrepute’.

Speaking at the time Herron said: “The biggest regret is the way I left Larne and something I’ll always regret because I do believe we would have gone on to win the league."
